- The project is located in the PJM power market, where there is accelerating corporate demand for energy driven by data center buildout
- In November of 2024, Brookfield purchased an initial 510 MW portfolio of projects from SunEnergy1, with an option to acquire an additional 330 MW, and this acquisition expands this framework
- Leverages the combined capabilities of SunEnergy1’s market leading vertically integrated development and construction capabilities and Brookfield’s commercial contracting competencies and access to capital to deliver new clean power capacity to meet the growing needs of corporate customers
NEW YORK, NY and BETHEL, NC – October 9, 2025 – SunEnergy1 and Brookfield, announce an agreement to acquire and construct the Cherry solar project, a 300 MW utility scale solar facility in North Carolina.
The transaction is an expansion of the existing framework announced in November 2024 under which Brookfield acquired a 510 MW solar portfolio and received exclusivity over an incremental 330 MW of projects. The Cherry solar project will be built by SunEnergy1 pursuant to a turn-key engineering, procurement and construction contract, providing strong visibility on costs and will serve growing corporate demand for power driven by data center load growth in PJM.
Stephen Gallagher, CEO of Brookfield Renewable North America, said, “Since we signed our initial transaction with SunEnergy1 last year we’ve been impressed with their flexibility, high quality work and ability to get things done. We’re delighted to be building on this relationship in a key market for our corporate customers.”
Kenny Habul, President & CEO of SunEnergy1, said, “As we continue to execute on the active construction of the projects under the initial framework agreement, we are delighted to expand the portfolio of projects from our existing interconnect pipeline that we are selling and constructing for the world-class team at Brookfield to an aggregate of over 1,100 MW.”
